SNAPSHOT OF WIDER COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT:

  • The 14-week accredited construction programme for NEETs started. 14 dedicated learners have been attending site everyday to learn practical hands-on skills. Every few weeks the young people will start learning a new trade. In April the team supported the learners with painting and decorating using the vacant flats on site compound.
  • A site visit was hosted this month to ten young people taking part in the 14-week Accredited Construction Programme, held in our Knowledge Quad and delivered by Build Skill. The young learners received a detailed presentation from Mike Perera, Senior Project Manager followed by a guided tour by Paul Morris, Senior Site Manager. The feedback from the group was really positive; learners enjoyed visiting a live site and seeing construction in action!
  • This month, two T-Level students started their 45-day industrial placement with the Woolwich Leisure Centre’s Site Management and Quantity Surveying teams. The students will be on site every Friday during term time.
  • This month the Social Value team met with Gement - Increasing Talent in Construction, who deliver a range of accredited courses to upskill the workforce and help retain workers in the industry.
  • The Social Value team met with Action Youth Boxing Intervention and the Talent Foundry in April to discuss ways to collaborate.
  • The team met with CiTB to discuss engaging Supply Chain partners on the Woolwich Leisure Centre project, as from August/September onwards more subcontractors will be on site.
  • The team met with Cidori, who are keen to deliver accredited courses to people in Greenwich and upskill the current workforce, using our Knowledge Quad. It was agreed that on 1st July 2024, that the team will deliver an Employability programme for those 19 plus, unemployed or those earning less than Β£21K a year, helping people to upskill or get work ready and obtain a CSCS card. This two-week course will be held in the Woolwich Leisure Centre Knowledge Quad.
