EMPLOYMENT, TRAINING & SKILLS:

👷‍♂️ Created 29 new jobs.

👷‍♂️ Created 8 apprenticeships. A Greenwich young person who took part in the 14-week study programme secured an apprenticeship with our screeding subcontractor.

🏫 Provided work experience to six Greenwich residents to date. We had a young person from Greenwich on work experience with Greenwich Council, spend a day on the Woolwich Leisure Centre site, to learn about the development and construction.

👩‍🏫 Since April, we have had two T-Level Students from LSEC on a 45-day industrial placement with the Woolwich Leisure Centre Site Management and Quantity Surveying teams.

👩‍🏫 Using the Knowledge Quad, we have delivered two rounds of CSCS card training, ten Greenwich residents have gained a CSCS card; ten people successfully obtained their CSCS card.

🏢 The Knowledge Quad is used by LSEC to hold Quantity Surveying lessons until Friday 15th March

🏢 On Monday 18th March, a 14-week accredited construction programme started for Greenwich NEETs using the Knowledge Quad and the vacant flats to carry out practical work experience. 11 young people (NEETs) completed the programme in June.

🏢 This month the Knowledge Quad was used by Greenwich Council for a meeting and our subcontractor – Birch Screeding used the space to interview a young person.

Snapshot of wider community engagement

  • The Social Value team met with Build Skills to organise a second round of the 14-week accredited study programme to be held in the Knowledge Quad starting 16th September.
  • This month, Birch Screeding interviewed a young person who took part in the first round of the 14-week accredited construction programme, for a Screeding Apprenticeship. Callum has since secured an apprenticeship with Birch and started work this month.
  • Build Skills approached Morgan Sindall to discuss a skills boot camp programme for 19 plus. We discussed the 2-week programme in detail and we will pilot the programme on another Morgan Sindall site and deliver the programme in Woolwich once the 14-week study programme (cohort 2) ends.
  • We met with M.I.T to discuss collaborating in Greenwich. MIT has secured funding and is keen to partner up with Morgan Sindall to deliver a construction bootcamp.
  • A young person who was on work experience with the Royal Borough of Greenwich, spent a day with the Woolwich Leisure Centre team, to learn about the Woolwich Leisure Centre development and construction. The young person was provided with 5-point PPE and taken on a guided tour of the live construction site.
