Project update - October 2024

Here's the latest update

Site Activities

We have recently been working through the pile cropping and cap placement stages, two important steps in laying the foundation for the new structure.

Pile cropping is the process of cutting down the tops of the concrete piles that were previously driven into the ground. These piles form the deep foundation that supports the building. These are then concreted and connected to the steel frame.

On the existing school side, the new MUGA fencing is now installed. We have also planed, resurfaced and painted the MUGA pitch which accommodates several different sports pitch layouts within. This will be part of the future school and be accessible through a new set of steps with adjacent ramp.

The tarmac planings from the old surface were laid in an area of the nearby allotments to provide a hard landscaped car park for its users.

FUN FACT! 💭

There are a total of 115 piles that support the new building!

Other News

We recently had a visit from CCS to carry out a report on our site. The Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) is an initiative in the construction industry aimed at improving the image of construction and ensuring that construction activities are carried out with minimal negative impact on the community, the environment, and the workforce. We achieved a score of 45/45, which is something we are very proud of and even more so for it being our first visit of the project.

Upcoming work

We are excited to announce a major milestone in our project which is the beginning of the steel frame installation, a crucial phase that will shape the structure of the building and significantly advance construction.

The steel frame forms the skeleton of the building and provides the essential support for the floors, walls, and roof. Once the frame is in place, you’ll begin to see the structure take shape, offering a visual representation of the final building.

The process will begin with the erection of the main steel columns, followed by the placement of horizontal beams. A crane will be used to lift the steel in a particular sequence, that will take place from several different areas of site.
