Project update - April 2024

News |

Here's the latest update from the team:

Site Activities

We have had a very busy month lifting our new site welfare in place and creating access to site through what was originally just a field. When the project finishes, this space will be landscaped back to its original state. We have ensured an area of this public space is accessible via a pedestrian gate to allow it to remain secure and in constant use.

To form the access road to site for operatives, staff and deliveries, our groundworkers have stripped the topsoil, and we have laid ground protection mats to spread the load of the heavy construction vehicles, rather than using traditional methods of road construction to cut down on our carbon footprint as this has saved a large number of vehicle movements and non-renewable resources being used in its construction.

Our gate hut and Gateperson have now been relocated from the school entrance to our newly created site entrance to monitor and control all construction related traffic and visitors to site.

Our new site offices and welfare have landed! This will be our home for the remainder of the project., we have moved out of the school car park and the temporary classrooms are now in use by the school. Our site welfare will feature an Astro-turf breakout space for site staff to enjoy their breaks in the outside seating areas and help with wellbeing.

FUN FACT - The first part of the building being stripped and demolished is 51 years old!

Upcoming:

We have begun the demolition strip out of the first part of the existing school to make way for the new building. This was where pupils from years 5 & 6 used to learn. These pupils are now using the temporary classrooms that were recently completed.

Once the internal strip out has been completed, we will be begin demolishing the structure with specialist machinery to ensure all recyclable materials are salvaged and sent to the appropriate facilities. We will be monitoring this process closely to ensure that there is minimal disruption to our neighbours.

Our groundworkers have commenced the reduced level dig to form the base of a new ramp to the multi-use games area. This will facilitate emergency and groundskeeper access in the final scheme but will be utilised for access during construction to maintain segregation between the school users and construction works.

This reduce level dig will continue across the old playground in the next few weeks to make way for the piling rig to start putting in the foundations for the new steel frame, more on this next month.
