Progress
Key facts
- This project marks the first appointment for Morgan Sindall’s Southern Home Counties business under the latest iteration of the DfE’s construction framework.
- The scheme will see the creation of a new hall, classroom spaces, kitchen, and a multi-use games area (MUGA).
- The roof will be covered in photovoltaic (PV) panels and a fabric first approach to air tightness and insulation will be adopted via the use of high-spec windows and doors to ensure a high U-Value rating.
- The school is operated by Veritas Multi Academy Trust and will have capacity for 420 pupils.
About the project
Pilgrims’ Way, is the new highly sustainable two-form entry primary school, located in Canterbury.
The project will embrace the DfE’s objectives toward net zero carbon. This will be achieved through sustainable design and construction processes, including energy efficiency and less reliance on gas by using air source heat pump technology. CarboniCa, Morgan Sindall’s in-house digital carbon reduction tool, will also be used to measure whole life carbon emissions, ensuring potential carbon outputs are managed and reduced during the design, construction, and operation of the building. You can find out more about our appointment to the project in this press release.
Working in the Canterbury community
Making a positive difference in the communities we work is a vital part of our responsible business plan. Our Community Investment Group supports our project teams in the delivery of local community engagement projects. The Southern Home Counties team is part of the wider London & Home Counites business unit, which operates out of 4 regional offices, the Canterbury office being associated with this project.
Guy Scott, project manager, is the dedicated community contact for Pilgrims’ Way primary school and will maintain communications with neighbours and the surrounding community. If you have any questions, please do get in touch with Guy via the contact form at the bottom of the page with any queries regarding the project.
As a business we are proud members of the Considerate Constructors Scheme, which has a Code of Considerate Practice designed to encourage best practice beyond statutory requirements.
This page will provide a snapshot of activities we have been undertaking in the local community.
