Project overview

MKUH’s new Imaging Centre is replacing the outdated single-storey MRI scanner building, providing Milton Keynes with a cutting-edge medical facility.

Construction is taking place in an active hospital setting on a logistically tight site footprint, ensuring safe pedestrian and public movement at all times.

We commenced on site in August 2024, beginning demolition of the existing building in October, and are due to handover the newly completed 2-storey building in March 2026.

Site Activities

February has been a busy month for our substructure works. We have completed the majority of our under slab drainage runs, and have completed the live connections

to the existing maternity ward building. We are over half way through the installation and concrete pour of our ground beams and floor slab.

The tower crane was successfully erected and now stands proud on site — this is a crucial addition to the coming months on site.

Upcoming work

In the coming weeks, construction will progress significantly as work on the superstructure gets underway.

The reinforced concrete frame will begin to take shape, starting with the vertical elements. By mid-March, installation of the Level 2 slab will commence, and by the end of March, we will be well under way with the Level 3 slab, preparing for the plantroom installation in April.

Tower Crane Install

On Saturday 22nd of February, we successfully erected our impressive 24m-tall tower crane. The tower crane is a crucial piece of equipment for the

remainder of our project, assisting with lifts for the RC frame, structural steelwork, cladding, plant, roofing, and much more.

Using a mobile crane ( pictured left), the team carefully carried out the install without a hitch, and strict exclusion zones were in place throughout to maintain public safety. The operation kicked off at 5am and

wrapped up by 6:30pm — an incredible effort from the onsite team!

The tower crane will slew over the site and surrounding area, and will be in free spin in windy conditions.
