Welcome to the project page for the New Imaging Centre at Milton Keynes University Hospital, which is being built by Morgan Sindall Construction.
Here you can read about the project and its positive effect on the community, and track progress as it happens.
Progress
Key facts
- Live Hospital Environment: Construction will occur in an active hospital setting, ensuring safe pedestrian and public movement.
- Foundation: Supported by 114 piles, each installed to a depth of 12 meters.
- Space Constraints: A tower crane will assist during construction phases. Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) will be utilised to access tight areas of the site, particularly for façade installation.
- Roof Plant Room: Plant and equipment are strategically placed in an enclosed rooftop plant room to minimise visibility and noise emissions.
- Architectural Design: The building's façade has been carefully designed to harmonise with existing structures while incorporating a modern aesthetic cook.
About the project
Milton Keynes University Hospital Imaging Centre is a new building located in the centre of the hospital grounds.
The new scheme entails a Major capital redevelopment on the site of the existing MRI facility to support the increasing diagnostic demand at the trust. The scheme will include provision for CT, MRI and ultrasound scanning and supporting clinical and administrative facilities.
The new building is replacing the outdated single-storey MRI scanner building, providing Milton Keynes with a cutting-edge medical facility. This ensures the community has access to modern diagnostic technologies and a facility that reflects the needs of the growing population.
The construction of a new 3-storey radiology facility promises significant benefits for the local community. By improving diagnostic capabilities, patient experience, and operational efficiency, this project will positively transform healthcare access and outcomes in the region.
Enhancing Healthcare Services
- MRI and CT Scanners: The facility will house two MRI scanners and two CT scanners, significantly increasing the hospital’s capacity to perform advanced imaging studies. This will reduce waiting times and enable faster, more accurate diagnoses for critical conditions like cancer, stroke, and trauma.
- Ultrasound Department: A new Ultrasound unit with six examination rooms will streamline outpatient services, ensuring timely care for routine and specialised diagnostic needs.
A spacious Radiology waiting area and new outpatient entrance will enhance the overall patient experience, making hospital visits less stressful and more comfortable for community members.
Supporting the Local Community
- By increasing diagnostic capacity, the hospital can expedite the path from testing to treatment, benefiting patients with urgent medical conditions. Early intervention can save lives, improve recovery outcomes, and reduce the need for more intensive treatments.
- The new entrance and dedicated waiting area for outpatient services will make it easier for patients from across Milton Keynes to access high-quality care without disruption, fostering a more community-friendly healthcare experience.
Boosting Hospital Efficiency and Sustainability
- The enclosed plant room and rooftop plant space will support the building’s operations efficiently, ensuring the diagnostic equipment and clinical spaces remain state-of-the-art and functional.
- The new building will connect to the existing Radiology department and hospital corridor, enhancing the workflow for hospital staff and minimising inconvenience for patients.
