Mentoring
Lewis Quinn, our Graduate Environmental Manager, and Mhairi Boyle, Design Engineer at BakerHicks, are delighted to be taking part in Carrick Academy’s Career Mentoring programme.
The three mentoring sessions will take place in October, November, and December. The first session ‘getting to know you’ introduces the mentors, primarily their education and work experience. This session will facilitate a discussion with the students on their strengths, qualities and skills and the mentors will have the opportunity to feedback on how the students present themselves, including their eye contact and body language. Session two ‘the world of work’ focuses on the students chosen path, whether it be university or college course, job, or apprenticeship. The discussion will allow students to provide evidence and examples of why they think they are suitable for a course or job. The third and final session ‘looking forward’ will see the students present what they think their life might look like in 10 years’ time and what steps will have been taken to get there. The mentors can then offer feedback on the students plans and presentation skills and offer advice and guidance on the next steps to be taken including qualifications, experience, and personal development.
