Meet Oliver!

Oliver is currently undertaking a T-Level placement with Morgan Sindall Construction, working with the team on the Kingsway to the Sea project in Hove, Brighton.

On his placement, Oliver will spend 45 days across a period of time with the team, learning practical on-the-job experience from the professionals themselves! Throughout his placement, Oliver will spend time learning all about industry, most of which will apply to the theory of his course at college.

We caught up with him to see how his placement is going so far!

- What's a T-Level and how can I apply for a placement?

You can find out more about T-Level's here. Speak to your local college provider to find out more about placement opportunities with us!

How did you find out about the T-Level qualification and what made you apply for it over A-Levels?

I found out about T Levels during an open day at the college I attend through my teacher James Murray who explained to me in depth the requirements of the course. I applied for a T Level over A-Levels because the course suited my ideas more on what I might want to do in my career. The fact that T-Levels are more hands on and that I get the chance to work on a construction site excited me more than the idea of doing A Levels and learning from a classroom all the time.

Why do you want to work in construction? What has inspired you to work in this industry?

I wanted to do something that interests me, something that I enjoy and pays well. Construction is an industry that ticks all them boxes.

What are your future career plans and where do you see yourself in 10 years time?

I want to work in an area in construction for sure, but I don’t have an exact idea on what area. My T-Level placement with Morgan Sindall is showing me all the different roles available so hopefully that will help me decide in the future. I want to have a career that not only pays well but also that I enjoy what I’m doing.

What project are you currently working on and what have you enjoyed the most about it so far?

I am currently working on the Kingsway to the Sea project in Hove, Brighton. I have enjoyed every task I have done so far - there’s been no tasks I’ve disliked - however if i was to pick my most favourite, I've most enjoyed the work I did while learning about quality control and the work I did on surveying.
In general, everyone on site has helped me learn about their role and their work in the construction trade. They've made me feel really welcome and helped me in numerous ways. I'm looking forward to learning even more and taking all this experience back to college to apply it to the theory of my course.
