Site Activities
Ho Ho Ho… The festive period is upon us and here at Houghton Regis Leisure and Community Centre we’re certainly feeling the spirit. The external façade of the building is now complete with the external soft and hard landscaping progressing well. All three pools have now been tiled and their glass balustrades are all complete. The movable floor in the learner pool has been installed, and the tiling contractor has progressed amazingly throughout the building in all the wet areas. Building services are forever present and progressing well. All the underfloor heating is now tested and it’s great to see some of the permanent lighting going on. The fire stopping of all voids and service holes is ongoing ahead of the ceiling grid installation. With the floor finishes commencing, areas are starting to look near complete.
Community engagement
Last month we were contacted by The Careers and Enterprise Company to support a staff development initiative. Along with our Social Value Manager, Morgan Sindall hosted a training day here on site. This allowed the organisation to get a better understanding of the industry, the various roles and responsibilities. The staff found it very beneficial knowing how our roles effect the works on site and really appreciated the site tour.
Upcoming work
This month will see the internal works really progress. The tiling contractor will start to motor on now that the rendered walls are complete. With the ceilings being installed it should bring the rooms a step forward to completion allowing the M&E contractor to install their final fittings. The glass balustrade to the stairs will commence and all scaffolding within the building should be removed. The lift installation is complete and awaiting commissioning. Our mechanical and electrical contractor will start testing of all services throughout the building whilst our finishing trades work to complete areas (floor finishes, carpentry, ceilings etc). External soft and hard landscaping will continue to progress tothe main entrance of the site.
