10 Tonne Carbon Challenge

Poundland, Elgin Exceeds 10 Tonne Carbon Challenge Target!

News |

The Poundland, Elgin project team have taken part in Morgan Sindall’s 10 Tonne Carbon Challenge.

The purpose of this challenge is for our project teams and supply chain to work together in order to reduce their project carbon emissions by a minimum of 10 tonnes.

Reducing carbon rather than offsetting is our primary goal. We are focusing on encouraging greater innovation and transparency of product emissions in the supply chain. The challenge is also great opportunity to capture some best practice across the industry.

Incorporating the skills and innovation of our supply chain partners the team saved 14 tonnes of CO2 – the equivalent to heating 5 UK homes annually!

The team achieved this by:

  • Reusing existing materials, including the site hoarding
  • Efficient transportation of materials
  • Early grid connection resulting in only one week of generator use
