About the project

The original grass playing fields have been replaced by a single 3G astroturf pitch which now means that it can be used throughout the year as opposed to the previously restricted use during the winter months.

The existing single storey pavilion has been extended to increase capacity and now boasts two new changing rooms, in addition to the original two, as well as toilet and shower facilities and an equipment store.

Other improvements to the site include drainage and ground retention works - in order to alleviate issues with standing surface water - and floodlighting to the pitch. Spectator standing areas have also been included as well as additional parking for both cars and bikes with associated street lighting

Morgan Sindall were appointed by the Council through the SCAPE Scotland framework, a public sector procurement specialist, to deliver the project.

Handover

Councillor Paul Ferretti, Convener of East Dunbartonshire Council’s Place, Neighbourhood and Corporate Assets Committee, welcomed the completion of the £4.3m sports facility.

Councillor Ferretti was joined by children and representatives from local clubs Campsie Black Watch Juniors, Campsie Minerva AFC and Campsie FC at the opening.

I am delighted to see this project come to fruition and now open for the people of the wider Campsie area to enjoy. It has been a longheld plan to have a sports facility such as this in the area and it looks fantastic. This community asset represents a major capital investment in the village and I know that it will be well-used by local clubs. The project has been delivered on budget and I am pleased to see that bookings are now open for the new facility just in time for the Easter holidays.” - Councillor Paul Ferretti, Convener of East Dunbartonshire Council’s Place, Neighbourhood and Corporate Assets Committee

Social Impact

CITB figures suggest that the UK needs an additional 251,500 construction workers by 2028 to meet expected levels of work. This is something SCAPE Scotland and their partners are passionate about and in October 2023, in close collaboration with the SCAPE Scotland partners, we delivered a unique, large scale Work Taster event, open to anyone over the age of 16. Young people travelled far and wide to attend this event and one group, from Lenzie Academy, were extremely keen to build on what they learned on the day.

Since October 2023, Morgan Sindall have been able to offer Lenzie Academy site visits to their SCAPE Scotland project at Lennoxtown, which gave them real ‘hands on’ experience to understand the work that goes into designing and constructing a sports pavilion and pitch.

We welcomed 6 pupils and 2 teaching staff to site where Project Manager, Gregor Forsyth, delivered a short presentation and gave the pupils a tour of the site. During the site visit the pupils were shown drawings of the projects and Gregor discussed the benefits of good CV writing; what it should contain and what to note to stand out if it’s an application for a first job. They discussed career pathways, interview skills; presentation of themselves, timings of when to arrive etc.

All of the students at Lenzie Academy thoroughly enjoyed their construction site tour with Morgan Sindall. They particularly enjoying seeing the site in person and speaking with people who are working in the construction industry about their career options. They learned about careers and pathways they had never heard of and considered before and really appreciated the positive, aspirational message. For many of them this has validated their interest in this area but has made them consider what pathway and route they want to take now they have a better understanding of their options. - Ms Gibbons, Principal Teacher of Developing the Young Workforce - Lenzie Academy
