Our Southern Home Counties team has broken ground on a brand new £11 million affordable housing development on Victoria Road, Portslade.
The scheme, which is being delivered for Brighton & Hove City Council under the New Homes for Neighbourhoods programme, will see the construction of 42 one, two and three-bedroom flats on the land adjacent to Portslade Town Hall.
Four of the properties within the development will be wheelchair accessible and each property will benefit from sustainable build elements, including solar panels and ground source heat pumps, in order to reduce carbon emissions and utility bills.
The building will be constructed using a light gauge steel frame that is to be fabricated off-site, minimising the development’s environmental impact and providing a durable and sustainable structure for the apartments.
Externally, the site will boast stunning landscape communal gardens, with raised planters, trees, a small orchard, seating and green ‘living’ walls planted with a variety of flora, to provide a beautiful natural landscape for residents to socialise and relax in.
The team at Morgan Sindall Construction has regularly engaged with the project’s neighbours and have put in place special processes, such as timed deliveries and traffic management systems, to minimise disruption to the surrounding community as much as possible.
Working with the Portslade community
To ensure the social value of the project is felt within the local community, Morgan Sindall Construction has donated tools and equipment to a local foodbank, with a member of the Southern Home Counties team also volunteering at the foodbank every Friday.
Guy Hannell, area director at Morgan Sindall Construction, said: “We are delighted to be starting work on the Victoria Road scheme, providing affordable, contemporary and sustainable housing for a growing community.
“Morgan Sindall Construction is committed to enriching the communities that sit at the heart of our projects, and we look forward to continuing our engagement with all stakeholders, including the close working relationship we enjoy with Brighton & Hove City Council.”
Morgan Sindall Construction is working with Brighton & Hove City Council to provide a range of affordable housing under the council’s five year Strategic Construction Partnership, which launched in 2018.
This latest appointment comes shortly after Morgan Sindall Construction successfully delivered 30 new homes five weeks ahead of schedule as part of a previous affordable housing development at Selsfield Drive, Moulsecoomb, 12 new homes in Hangleton have were also completed under the New Homes for Neighbourhood programme.
The schemes were delivered for Brighton & Hove City Council as part of plans to build 64 new council homes by the end of 2020, and a wider four year plan to provide 800 new accommodation units within the city.
