Welcoming new talent to North West schemes

Morgan Sindall Construction’s North West team has affirmed its commitment to supporting the next generation of built environment professionals with the welcoming of several new faces to sites across the region.

Jessie Brown, Joe Duckworth and Katie Klaveness will all be gaining valuable experience at some of our most prestigious projects across the North West.

Jessie and Joe are both in their third year at Liverpool John Moores University(LJMU) studying towards degrees in Construction Management and found out about the placement opportunities at Morgan Sindall Construction at a university jobs fair.

They were selected for the roles following a highly competitive interview process, which involved group and solo interviews as well as skills assessments.

Jessie’s interest in construction began at an early age and was inspired by her father buying and renovating homes for her family’s use. Although she went on to study Business Studies, Maths and PE at A-Level, she undertook work experience at Carillion while studying and decided to pursue construction as a career.

As part of her year placement at Morgan Sindall Construction she will be staying close to home and assisting with Morgan Sindall Construction’s work at LJMU’s new Copperas Hill development. The project will deliver two landmark new buildings for the university. The Student Life Building and the Sports Building. Jessie believes her time on site will be hugely important to achieving her aim of becoming a project manager.

Joe Duckworth also has big ambitions – he began the same course as Jessie after having already worked in the construction industry for several years and with the aim of improving his skillset and pushing on to the next level.

On his course Joe is gaining the knowledge needed to rise to the top of the industry, and will gain further practical experience as he undertakes a placement at our residential development at The Slate Yard, part of the English Cities Fund’s New Bailey scheme in Salford.

Like Jessie, Katie Klaveness will be based at one of our Liverpool sites, forming part of our Paddington Village team for the summer.

It is a source of great pride for Morgan Sindall Construction to have played a part in shaping Katie’s interest in the construction industry. Katie was a pupil in St. Hilda’s High School when we built a new three-storey school to replace the existing 1960s building, providing a modern learning environment for pupils. Katie was inspired by the events we held while on site, including several women in construction talks.

Katie undertook a work experience placement with the St Hilda’s site team in 2015 followed by a placement in 2018 at Paddington Village. We are delighted to welcome Katie back to Paddington Village for a summer placement following the completion of her first year at LJMU, where she is studying Quantity Surveying.

Everyone from the Morgan Sindall Construction team would like to wish Jessie, Joe and Katie the best of luck. All three have already shown they will be valuable additions to these three projects and we look forward to working with you during your time with us!
