Olympic opening for Bromsgrove Leisure Centre

Olympic stars Rebecca Adlington and Steve Parry joined more than 120 children to celebrate the opening of Bromsgrove’s new state-of-the-art leisure centre.

Built by the Morgan Sindall Construction team in the Midlands, and located on School Drive, the £10.3 million facility was described by four-time Olympic medallist, Adlington, as one of the best she had ever seen.

It features a 25 x 12.5 metre pool, alongside a learner pool measuring 15 x 10 metres, which has an adjustable floor. The base of the pool has the ability to be raised or lowered on a hydraulic system, making it accessible and therefore suitable for water-based exercise and rehabilitation classes.

Families from across the region joined the Olympic stars, council officials and representatives from both Morgan Sindall Construction, and the centre’s new operator, Everyone Active, which organised the event, to partake in a range of water-based activities, including: water polo, synchronised swimming, and fast swimming.

Guests of the event were welcomed by portfolio holder for leisure at Bromsgrove District Council Cllr Whittaker, who officially opened the centre alongside regional director at Everyone Active, Jon Senior.

The new centre is a key asset for the local authority, and the investment is part of a wider £100m regeneration initiative to build a Better Bromsgrove. So far this has included the total revamp of the high street, major retail developments throughout the town and a near-total overhaul of public buildings.

The new facility also boasts a comprehensive 100-station fitness suite, a 15 route climbing centre, a spinning studio and multiple group exercise studios. In addition, the centre features a spa which includes, a sauna, steam room, aroma room, relaxation area and Jacuzzi.

Four-time Olympic medallist, Rebecca Adlington, added: The swimming pools at Bromsgrove Sports and Leisure Centre are fantastic and provide children from across the district with great venues to learn an invaluable life-saving skill. I hope that everyone who attended the event had a brilliant time and learnt new skills that will inspire them to swim more often.
