SEE Building wins Project of the Year at the Constructing Excellence North West Construction Awards 2023
Morgan Sindall took home THREE awards including Project of the Year from the Constructing Excellence North West Regional Construction Awards 2023 ceremony held at the Titanic Hotel, Liverpool on 6th July 2023.
The SEE Building - Project of the Year
The SEE Building brings together an entire faculty in one space and forms a vital part of the Salford Crescent and University District masterplan. It exemplifies the University of Salford's (UoS) commitment to industry collaboration, both in its operation and its design and delivery.
Constructing Excellence judges agreed that the The SEE Building has been a resounding success, and serves as a model of Construction Playbook principles. Innovative and collaborative practices were demonstrated through its design and delivery, upheld from pre-construction to post-handover.
Morgan Sindall was delighted to also take home a Highly Commended certificate for Contractor of the Year award, based largely on its work for this project.
University of Salford - Client of the Year
Morgan Sindall enjoyed a successful and positive working relationship with The University of Salford on the SEE Building project, with project manager Justin Kay describing them as an "enlightened client". We were able to demonstrate to Constructing Excellence judges how the university's leadership helped to establish clear and realistic project objectives, reduce the risk of disputes and claims, promote collaboration among stakeholders, and allowed for better management of time, cost, and quality.

- BIM level 2 facilitating efficient and collaborative design development and a digital thread for FM

- £20m social value enhanced by our onsite training and learning facility The Knowledge Quad
- Fair payment benefits shared with our supply chain including expediated payments of 28 days
- Perfect Delivery (on time, on budget, snag free) three months ahead of schedule
- A delighted client awarding 10/10 across the board on completion feedback, with repeat work allocated at the North of England Robotics Innovation Centre
Barry Roberts - Outstanding Achievement
Barry Roberts stepped down as managing director of Morgan Sindall's North West region earlier this year, and was honoured to receive an Outstanding Achievement award for his work.
Barry has been a much-loved managing director who has always done things in his own style, leading by example and having fun along the way.
Judges agreed that Barry has lived and breathed the values of Constructing Excellence through his 40 year career, and added significant value to the North West construction industry. Although Barry leaves Morgan Sindall, he plans to continue contributing to the construction industry by doing the things that he does best, such as coaching, mentoring and charity work, which means that his knowledge and expertise will continue to benefit the region.
