Morgan Sindall Construction passes with flying colours at E-ACT North Birmingham Academy

News |

Morgan Sindall Construction’s Midlands Business has celebrated practical completion at E-ACT North Birmingham Academy together with of Acivico, a wholly owned subsidiary of Birmingham City Council, as it expands the current schools capacity.

An opening ceremony was held on Tuesday 3rd of September to mark the exciting milestone, with several key stakeholders in attendance.

Procured through the Constructing West Midlands Framework, which is aimed at improving public and third-sector facilities in the West Midlands region, E-ACT North Birmingham Academy has benefitted from an £11 million extension and refurbishment.

Morgan Sindall has enhanced and refurbished the current facilities for the academy as well as provided a new sports field – taking the size of the campus to 2,500sq.m. Also, the team has added a new two-floor extension connecting to the existing building, which will provide extra teaching space for a further 300 students.

Throughout the construction of the extension, the project team has looked to engage with the school and local community to deliver social value to where it is most needed. This includes building a Construction Training wall on site to allow children to have practical lessons, as well as partnering with the school to raise money in aid of testicular cancer, which saw the site team run over 500km in a month. As a result of this work, Morgan Sindall was granted a Gold Award at the Considerate Contractors Award, scoring 47 and 45 points.

As Morgan Sindall continues its contribution towards creating a sustainable future, this project has achieved a BREEAM Excellent rating, meeting environmental and Net Zero criteria, whilst employing a local supply chain.

In line with its Intelligent Solutions approach, Morgan Sindall has donated technology teaching walls to the school. This will be used for mock electrical workshops, aiding the school in its delivery of STEM education.

Richard Fielding, Area Director for Morgan Sindall Construction in the Midlands, said:

We’re so proud to celebrate this important milestone here at E-ACT North Birmingham Academy. By enhancing the learning environment at the school and bringing a brand new sports field to life, our work will help to inspire the next generation.
In partnership with Acivico, the project team has created an environment that not only enhances the academy's facilities but also guarantees a sustainable, long-term future for the institution."

Marina Robertson, Group Managing Director at Acivico, said:

The CWM Framework was designed to offer value for money procurement with high standards of sustainability and social value; this project has delivered on every aspect.”

Paul Gibbs, National Director of Capital and Estates, E-ACT, said:

We are thrilled to announce the official opening of our new school block, a significant milestone that will enhance the learning environment for our students. This achievement would not have been possible without the unwavering support, investment, creativity, vision and hard work of Morgan Sindall Construction, Acivico, Glancy Nicholls Architects and Birmingham City Council.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all stakeholders involved in making this project a reality. These contributions have helped us create a space where education can thrive, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact this new facility will have on our students’ futures and wider community.
Thank you, once again, to everyone who played a part in making this vision a reality. We look forward to the incredible achievements that will take place within these walls.”
