Appointment to first phase of landmark £100 million research park in Cambridge

Morgan Sindall Construction has been appointed by the Howard Group to deliver the first phase of a new £100 million business and research park in Sawston, South Cambridge.

Sawston Trade Park, on London Road, is set to undergo a major redevelopment which will convert the former industrial estate and trade park into a high-quality, multi-let business park named ‘Unity Campus’.

Once completed, Unity Campus will comprise approximately 260,000 sq ft of business space and is likely to bring thousands of new jobs into the area across a range of office, laboratory and research and development activities.

Construction is already underway on the campus’ first office building ‘The Works’, which will offer 63,000 square feet of flexible, modern business space, ideally placed for tech and R&D firms seeking accommodation within the south Cambridge cluster.

Across the entire Unity Campus parking space for 670 bikes and 703 vehicles, including disabled spaces, will be provided. A new access road from the A1301 will also be created along with upgraded footpaths and cycle ways linking the estate with Whittlesford Parkway station. Phase One is expected to complete in early 2020.

Morgan Sindall Construction is currently on site at major schemes across the region. In Cambridge, work is underway on a new £10 million student accommodation development for Trinity College. The new 45-bedroom graduate student accommodation scheme will be located on a part of the site of the world-renowned Cambridge Union Society – the oldest debating society in the world.
